Planio’s Integration with Bitbucket

Bitbucket Integration

Earlier this year we were talking about integrating Planio with Atlassian products with the partnership team at Atlassian.

The driver behind the discussion was to open up our respective ecosystems, so you can pick and choose what you want to use. For example, you could host your Git repositories at Bitbucket and track issues and manage your project in Planio. Ideally, you’d be able to jump from Planio issues to Git commits in Bitbucket as easily as you can to Git commits in Planio.

Now, it’s never easy to find time for new projects when you’re a small, bootstrapped team.

But, Atlassian invited us to join their Connect Week in March in Amsterdam. As Amsterdam is practically around the corner from Berlin, we couldn’t say no. So, we headed down for a week to hang out at the amazing Room Mate Aitana Hotel in Amsterdam, drink excellent coffee and hack away on the integration.

In a bare week, Holger and Jan managed to have a fully functioning demo to present on Friday thanks to the power of focusing on a project for a weekly long hackathon.

Sidenote: Taking a week out away from the office to work on one project can do wonders for your team’s productivity.

We didn’t stop at just this first version of the integration, however.

After talking with the integration team at Bitbucket, they suggested that we work on integrating the Agile board from Planio right into Bitbucket.

As it happened, the second Atlassian Connect Week was coming up in August in San Diego. This time it wasn’t just around the corner, so we couldn’t make it in person.

However, we joined in the fun virtually from Berlin. We hooked up to a HipChat room so we could keep up with all the action at the Connect Week.

And when it came to demo day, Jan created a quick video to showcase the new updated Bitbucket integration, so we could present it to the rest of the Connect Week attendees:

Here’s a view of how that Bitbucket and Planio look like together now:

A view of the Planio Agile board in Bitbucket

So, there you have it! You can have the Planio Agile board right in Bitbucket. You can update issues, comment on issues and create new issues without leaving Bitbucket.

And that’s on top of the existing integration that lets you connection Bitbucket repositories to Planio, so you’ll be able to reference Bitbucket commits in Planio issues and Planio issues in Bitbucket commits.

You can check out the integration at the Planio Bitbucket page.
